I could not resist the temptation to make polymer clay Easter eggs. So forgive me for succumbing to this temptation. Even thought I use Polymer clay to make jewelry pieces, cabochons or beads, I must say that, from time to time, I love just playing with polymer clay. So today I am not creating a piece of jewelry, but an Easter egg.
In the beginning I had the intention to make the polymer clay egg using aluminum foil (the one you use in the kitchen) for the hollow core and then coat the oval shape with polymer clay. But then I found some Styrofoam eggs that were perfect for my project.
In this project I have used: a Styrofoam egg, black Fimo Professional Polymer Clay, Liquid Fimo, the pasta machine, the clay extruder, mica powders, Fimo gold metallic powder.
A little bit about the process: I have prepared the polymer clay and I have rolled it through the pasta machine through a medium thickness setting. I have coated the egg with polymer clay and then rolled it in my hands to have a nice even coating. Then I have added some liquid Fimo all around the egg. Using the extruder, I have made polymer clay ropes and I have started decorating the egg in a free hand design. I rolled some polymer clay ropes around the bottom of the egg to create a nice support. Once fully decorated, I have baked it in the oven according to the manufacturer’s specification. The last touch was to paint it with mica powders and Fimo gold metallic powder.
