ONE TUTORIAL A DAY FOR 31 DAYS – DAY 20 OF MY JOURNEY – INSPIRED BY A MAGNOLIA

1 (2)

I see flowering trees and magnolias everywhere. And I could not resist their charm. At first I wanted to make a necklace inspired by flowering trees, then I have changed my mind and decided to go for a magnolia (and put also some cherry flowers all around). In the end I have decided that adding the cherry flowers would be too much for this design and considered that the magnolia flower and the magnolia bud were just enough.

Materials and tools used: white Fimo Professional Polymer Clay, a pasta machine, petal cutters, pastel colors, triple thick varnish, memory wire, Liquid Fimo.

I have conditioned the clay.  I have cut some petal shapes.

Then I have cut the upper part of the petal (to make it smaller and also to change its form)

I have put the first two petals together.

Then I have added two more petals.

I have joined the petals together in the upper part (leaving a small gap).

I have pressed the petals together at the bottom and shaped it a little bit to look more like a bud.

I have textured some veins on the bud.

Then I have started to make the magnolia flower.

I have cut more petals and then I have textured them using a toothpick.

I have made a wavy margin using my fingers.

I have aligned the petals together and then pushed on the side of the petals to stick them together.

I decided to add another petal and stick them together pressing with the ball-end tool.

I have arranged a little bit the petals, then I have made a hole in the center. I have put the memory wire inside it.

After bending the memory wire, I have made a tear-shape bead, textured it a little bit and put in on the memory wire (using Liquid Fimo).

I have put the bud on the other side (bending the memory wire).

Then I colored them with pink pastels.

They looked like this before putting them into the oven:

I decided I would not add the little flowers and I only applied varnish.
