How to use Polymer clay to make molds for Polymer Clay

Hello dear friends!

How are you? Are you preparing for the week-end?

Well, I just finished a tutorial that I had to do and redo several times because I wan’t happy with it. But I finally managed to tweak the initial idea so that I ended up with a result that I liked. Yay !

If you’re familiar with my work, you know that I like to use molds. But they are just conversation starters. Because I will tweak the molded piece to look like I want it to look. And it will surely not look in any way like the original piece. The idea of using a mold means in fact having a base from where to start, then I would model, color, reshape my molded piece to become something else, a new design, I mean.

For this piece, that looks a little bit, in my humble opinion, like a Spring Fairy Head, I used the decoration of an Egyptian inspired box (meaning the Toutankhamon/Cleopatra style head on top of the lid). I’m a flea market fan so it’s not a surprise that I have odd objects like that around the house.

In case you don’t have little figurines or statuettes to mold, you can still try this idea with cameos, buttons, vintage jewelry pieces and any other items with an embossed interesting design.

I used a bracelet/cuff frame and 24 gauge wire to turn it into a cuff, but, of course, you can use this inspiration to make pendants, brooches or any other piece of jewelry.

Well, I hope that you’ll like this inspiration and I hope that you’ll use it in your work with polymer clay.

Have a beautiful and creative week-end!

Happy claying!

Mihaela

    1. Dear Megala,
thank you for your beautiful comment. I’m sorry for replying so late. My son was on vacation for two weeks and I tried to be present for him and have quality time with him:)
I strongly encourage you to try your hand at polymer clay. I love polymer clay because it’s easy to work with and it’s not such an expensive craft. You don’t need an expensive oven to bake the clay (like in pottery), you can start with polymer clay, a handful of tools and your own oven. And it’s so relaxing and feeling again like a child and you’re reconnecting with your inner creativity.
I love polymer clay and the feeling of joy that I have when I work with it. Which is why I love sharing my love for polymer clay and my ideas.
Have a beautiful day and I’m wishing you lots of inspiration for your yummy recipes!

I loved your blog posts and I share the same love for jewelry as you do.
Just like you, I consider that jewelry pieces are more than a piece of adornment and I love the stories from your blog posts.
I also think that jewelry pieces are really more than a decoration: they tell a story, they show your values. they’re a statement of who you are and what matters to you.
Have a beautiful and blissful day!
