Faux Metal and Glass Pendant

Faux metal and glass polymer clay tutorial

Hello dear friends!

I was in mood of making colorful faux glass pieces to contrast with the cold and cloudy weather outside.

I like using templates in my work and this lion template was the perfect idea for a faux metal pendant with faux glass insertions.

Use the right-click of the mouse and Save As to download the template and use it in your work with clay. It’s free for personal and commercial purposes.

This is the perfect project to use up your dark colored scrap clay, especially if you decide to go for a faux metal look. I’ve used silver mica for my project, but you can use golden, bronze or any other color of mica or no mica at all.

I used silver leaf and Pinata alcohol inks for the faux glass insertions and I have to say that it’s always fun to play with inks and clay.

In order to enhance the faux glass look of the insertions I used UV resin on top. I strongly encourage you to use resin and UV resin in your work. It will certainly allow you to achieve amazing results.

I personally love the contrast between the faux metal rough areas and the faux metal insertions. And I hope that you’ll like it too.

Materials and tools used:

  • Silver metal leaf
  • Alcohol inks (Pinata Baja Blue and Sunbright yellow)
  • free lion template
  • dotting tool
  • liquid clay
  • rigid blade and flexible blade
  • silver mica powder and varnish
  • UV resin and a UV lamp
  • pasta machine or clay roller
  • An oven and an oven thermometer

Before wrapping up this post I want to remind you that the Polymer Clay Symposium 2020 starts on Friday, February 7. My project is presented on Friday and it has everything to do with how to make your own unique clasps to make your jewelry designs stand out.

I hope you’ll register and watch the classes in the 24 hour window when they’re free and maybe even buy the bundle to keep all these workshops for yourself.

    1. Thank you, my dear Irene! I also though it would brighten up winter cloudy days! Have a beautiful day and I’m wishing you lots of inspiration and productivity for your beautiful jewelry pieces! 🌈

  1. Your projects are always so interesting, Mihaela! I love this one as well – such a wonderfully textured look. Hope your weekend is brilliant and creative.

    1. Thank you very much, my dear Carolyn, for liking these clay pieces. I also liked a lot the lion template and the final result of using it for this technique.
I’m sorry for replying a little late:) I was totally immersed in the making of a tabletop water fountain that I’ve made (helped by my son) and that I decorated with polymer clay. As my son was very impatient to see it done, I did my best to put all my focus into finishing it as quick as possible.
I’ll surely make a post about it because I love how it turned out (keeping in mind the little experience we have in the making of such fountains).
Have a beautiful and blessed day!
Sending you also lots of love and my best thoughts!

I have to tell you that I really love how the tabletop fountain turned out. And it is really special for me because my son helped me to decorate it.
